Imagine coming to work each day to triple chocolate mousse, hot chocolate buns and cupcake bouquets! Sisters Jenny and Christina Goodman have made it their career. Located in Meriden, Connecticut, their baked goods business Goodman Delights has really taken off with help from their KeyBank small business team.
Challenge
“Having to accept personal checks was stressful especially on large orders,” says Jenny. “We were fulfilling orders on good faith because there is always the possibility of larger checks not clearing.” Only being able to accept checks and cash also limited their ability to sell to larger sized corporate event and nonprofit customers that customarily pay with credit.

Solution
Through Key Merchant Services, the Goodmans were able to easily transition to accepting credit card payments. In November of 2020, their KeyBank team set them up with an easy-to-use credit card payment processing system and walked them through how to use it. “We are not tech savvy, but the people at Key held our hands throughout the process and now it’s a piece of cake,” smiles Jenny. The KeyBank team also introduced the Goodmans to Key’s remote check depositing. “The app is way easier to use than our previous bank’s app,” says Christina. “I just snap a photo of the check, tap a button and I’m done, which means we’re paid a lot sooner.”
Results
Christina points out, “Now 34% of our sales are made through credit card payments, and we’ve seen a big increase in business with corporate, nonprofit and out-of-state customers.” The Goodmans currently work out of a fully licensed kitchen built on their home property, but the sisters look forward to having their own storefront someday soon. “We’ll look to the KeyBank team for help on that too,” remarks Jenny. The Key team’s sweet tooth also helps to boost the Goodmans’ sales. “Yep, the ‘Funfetti’ cakes with cookie crumbles are their personal favorites,” says Christina. The bankers have also connected the Goodmans to new customers who are now regulars. “Yes, they are our bankers, but we feel like they’re part of our business,” says Christina. The Goodmans say their business has grown exponentially over the past year, also thanks to good word of mouth. But of course!
