Interview

What do you like most about working for Key?

Collaborating with interesting people from all backgrounds and being involved in the community have been a big draw for me. I wanted to immerse myself in a people-focused business and work for a company that balanced work and life responsibilities. Having worked in hospitality through school, having holidays and weekends off was a must for me and my growing family!

More than those things, though, Key embraces individualism. Being able to be myself is so important. I'm a little weird, quirky, and expressive, and Key's culture has allowed me to thrive in this inclusive environment.

Tell me about your career path to becoming a Relationship Manager.

I started my career at Key in various branch roles (teller to client service manager to banker). Once I was empowered to get licensed and grow in my banker role, my confidence shifted. I started introducing myself and having fun, organic conversations with local small business owners. Business owners have real challenges, and we have big ideas for helping them. As I moved to Business Banking, the businesses got larger, and the challenges did too. I love learning the ins and outs of what companies in the community do and thrive on working with them to figure out how Key can help them scale their success. Very few people realize the unique role banks play behind the scenes to support businesses!

What has helped support your success at Key?

I have a genuine interest in people and what is important to them, and my clients feel that. I've learned to be a trusted advisor and take a holistic view of the client's financial picture. Doing this goes a long way in this business.

Having vested partners (e.g., credit, underwriting, product partners) also plays a huge role in my success. We are a united team of experts and have a one-stop shop for busy C-Suite leaders. Spending time investing in their experience is a game changer, and knowing they have a quarterback to help on the fly helps so much. Clients appreciate the time we can invest in their company and goals — and I consistently feel fortunate to advise them!

How would you describe Key’s culture?

Key's culture is growth driven. Whether professional development or industry growth in different offerings, we always look ahead to serve our teammates and clients better. In Business Banking, we are eclectic, strategic, and very team oriented. We care immensely about one another and the clients we are serving. It's diverse, inclusive, and a full-color palette to grow where you are passionate about making a difference for our clients and community.

What type of employee thrives in your role?

It's essential to bring a mix of compassion and business savviness to a role in Business Banking. Being dedicated, flexible, genuinely curious, inquisitive, a critical thinker, courageous, and someone who wants to get out there and make a difference are all essential components of the role. There is an emotional investment in these deals, and it helps if you drive with passion. You need the desire to win an opportunity and see it through, and you require that same passion to get back up when you lose one!

Key is an Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Employer.
