Parker H.
Branch Manager
Interview
What brought you to Key?
I came from a larger bank. I had heard good things about Key’s culture. Accessibility of leadership and speed of change were two things that I was lacking at my previous employer.
How receptive Key’s leaders are to employee input has been a big differentiator. In larger organizations there’s a show up and do your job mentality. At Key, if I want to do something in the branch that I think will go over well with our clients or potential clients, I'm given a lot of leeway. As branch leaders we are better equipped to create relationships with clients when we are provided opportunities to fight for innovative solutions to their needs.
What do you like about being a Branch Manager?
At Key the Branch Manager serves a dual purpose—both managing a team and being a producer from a sales perspective. I like that I get to develop a team while also developing myself as a sales leader. That opens so many future career options for me.
What are your thoughts on career mobility for people who start off in a bank branch?
I explain to new teammates that banking is like a tree. The retail branch network is the trunk. As you climb the tree there are so many branches you could pursue. If you like customer service, sales (business sales, home lending, consumer lending, merchant, cash management, underwriting), back of house (operations, technical support), people leadership (HR)—the options feel endless when you think of all the ways you can go if you are willing to do the work, learn, research, and network with people in those roles.
Key is an Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Employer.
