Risk Review (Internal Audit and Credit Risk Review)

As the internal audit function within KeyBank, the Risk Review Group provides an independent assessment of Key’s processes and risks.

Risk Review Group (RRG) is KeyBank's third line of defense, responsible for providing an independent and objective perspective on KeyCorp's risks and controls through assessing and testing the effectiveness of Key's policies and practices as well as our adherence to applicable laws and regulations.

As a trusted advisor, RRG tests the adequacy and effectiveness of KeyBank's risk management practices, makes recommendations for improvement, and monitors remediation efforts. RRG serves as an internal audit, providing a 360-degree view of the organization and enabling our teammates to have a well-rounded perspective as we accomplish the critical work of being the third and last line of defense for Key.

The RRG includes the following audit teams:

  • Asset Management
  • Capital Markets and Treasury
  • Compliance
  • Credit Risk Review
  • Data Analytics
  • Enterprise Projects
  • Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and Operations
  • Shared Services
  • Model
  • Professional Practices
  • Financial
  • Technology

We help teammates build subject matter expertise and provide the financial support needed to obtain relevant credentials and certifications. RRG reimburses the full cost of tuition and associated fees for the review class associated with a certification examination relevant to the employee’s current job responsibilities. RRG pays eligible teammates a one-time bonus for completing their first certification.

RRG is proud to host a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Task Force. It’s an open membership group of interactive teammates who design activities, discussions, and events that elevate our consciousness so we continue to recognize and appreciate diversity in all forms, that equitable treatment is commonplace, and that our work environment remains inclusive.

Hear from KeyBank teammates about the culture and career opportunities within RRG.

So I began as an intern in the Risk Review Group, specifically, the Technology Audit Group. And I really enjoyed how accessible all the managers were, including higher level managers. And so, throughout the experience I was really impressed at how welcoming everyone was, especially, with all of our questions. And so, when it came time to think about where to place full time and I got a position offered to me it was an easy yes to join the Risk Review Group.

When I started as a Rotation Analyst, from day one I was told to bring my authentic self to work. This as a gay man, like really impressed me, and it made me feel comfortable working at KeyBank. Additionally, my managers within my department are extremely supportive of us inside and outside of work. They are continuously pushing us to be better. And then this pushed me to, ultimately, get my first professional certification, which I'm very proud of.

I can't remember a single instance where a leader or mentor I was interacting with was unwilling to discuss my career opportunities or goals, and having leadership as accessible as RRG's is certainly not guaranteed everywhere. And I can say if it wasn't for those relationships I don't think I would've been able to make it as far as I have in my career.

When talking to the college students that are considering interning at Key, I encourage them to do their research and go for it and do not feel discouraged if you do not have a typical banking degree, such as Accounting or Finance. KeyBank is such a large organization, and we need folks with diverse backgrounds, talents, and experiences.
