Frequently Asked Questions About Early Pay

For your direct deposit to qualify for Early Pay:

  • Your employer or payer must send the direct deposit to Key as an automatic payment to your checking or savings account.
  • Your employer or payer must send us the information about your direct deposit at least one day before the scheduled pay date.
  • Your direct deposit must not indicate an ineligible transaction type such as tax refunds, bill payments and rent payments.
  • Your deposit amount cannot exceed limits set by Key.
  • Your HSA and IRA direct deposits qualify when they meet all eligibility requirements above, except when the instructions from your employer or payor indicate that the deposit is intended for a future calendar year.

Employers may not send direct deposit information at the same time each pay period. Since Early Pay depends on when we receive your direct deposit information from your employer or payer, early payment is not guaranteed. The timing of your deposit's availability may vary from deposit to deposit, so it's important to confirm that funds are available before making payments.

To receive alerts when certain deposits hit your account, set up Transaction Alerts for deposits in Account Alerts.

Once you set up direct deposit, Early Pay can be available to you as soon as your next pay day.

Since Early Pay is an automated feature, you cannot opt out of this service. Our system applies Early Pay automatically to eligible direct deposits, and we cannot prevent your qualifying deposit from posting before your scheduled pay date.

Early Pay will not change the amount or the account in which the money is deposited. Your pay will continue to be deposited into your KeyBank checking and savings accounts as usual — just up to two days sooner. See details under What's an "eligible" direct deposit?
